Always love a fresh clean rain that has a beautiful rhythm to it. Mesmerizing. This painting was so fun to build up the many layers of soft colors and texture. It’s a favorite of mine and also Brennan’s at Atelier Gallery in Charleston. Says the photo does not do it justice. That’s why I appreciate my Galleries- sometimes art needs to be seen in person for the connection to happen.

I had been thinking about this still life set up for weeks….it was just an idea that would not go away until I painted it! I thoroughly enjoyed immersing into all the gorgeous layers building up in the background. The complicated Blue and White Chinoiserie Pagoda was a fun challenge to paint. Tough perspective and intricate design and I loved every minute. I have had this pagoda for so many years and it was delightful to put fresh beautiful roses in it and create this painting. I always feel so blessed to be an artist.

Speaking of good things and blessings…Super excited to have 2 shows coming up soon at Galleries. First one is on Thursday night, November 5th at ArtSource in Raleigh, NC. The following week on Friday night, November 13th at Bennett Galleries in Nashville, TN. I hope if you live near either of those hot spots you will come out and visit with us all. Going to be very special!

I love the painting process and I typically incorporate some kind of line/mark making against an abstract background no matter what I am painting. That’s as essential to me as capturing that light and shadow connection. Adore painting these figures as they allow me to put all my favorite things into the painting process for them. I have been painting figures and studies since I started painting. They are extremely hard to do and a great way to push and learn. I love attending live figure drawing sessions and do that as often as I can. Can’t find a prettier painter than Sherrie McGraw and I learned so very much in her advanced workshop. Sherrie teaches the “Language of Drawing” and watching her paint is like watching ballet- it’s just beautiful.
This figure is so strong and just gave me fits painting her left and right. It was a struggle and perhaps that’s why she is my favorite…And also the owner at Atelier Galleries favorite painting too. As I painted her my thoughts kept going to all the strong friends that I have admired and surrounded myself with. I especially thought of my very best sister friend who fought a valiant fight against breast cancer and then leukemia until the very end. Perhaps it’s breast cancer awareness month, her anniversary and birthday all coming up. I miss her but know she’s busy “angel-ing” up in heaven. Here’s to every strong individual out there who is fighting the fight…Peace and Grace.

Super excited! Loading up and heading out to deliver to the beautiful Atelier Gallery in Charleston! Can’t wait to show some of the beautiful new paintings that are making their way to my favorite gallery right on King Street. It’s always a welcome little break for us to visit and recharge in such a fun city.
This painting was a joy to paint and I did my very best to capture Nature’s colors that are just beyond comprehension at times. They always humble me and blow me away they are so pure and brilliant. This sunrise was truly a Fire in the Sky and I was in awe of it. Still am…

Total joy to paint this piece and felt like I was on holiday or “Gone Fishing” while having fun painting this one! I adore painting Chinoiserie/Blue and White pieces as I study the light and shadow and what that does to the pattern. This one has the prettiest fish painted all over it. Biggest most gorgeous soft hydrangeas and it was hard to tell where one stopped and the other began- just loved that. I could have monkeyed around with this one forever…but made myself stop…the layers and textures are so elegant and I am happy with how this one turned out.
I am painting long days in my Studio for several upcoming Shows at my Galleries…always honored to work with them and appreciate them so much. Stay tuned for more information very soon!
