Always love being a part of a surprise painting for that special someone and have several commissioned paintings in the works right now! It’s always an honor to paint specifically for someone and connect with what they want. While I am painting several “Bulldogs” right now…I also love to paint just about anything!

Thankful©KathyCousart

Always so Thankful but even more so as we enter into the Holiday Season and finishing out this year. It’s been a year full of love and also loss. More life lessons than I think I could pack into just one year. Fortunately, I believe in focusing on the positives and the daily gratitudes…the Thankfuls.
Here’s to a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday to y’all.

It’s Show Season for me at many of my Galleries and I have been painting and planning for that for months. It’s been some mighty long hours holed up painting away in my studio being thankful for all the opportunities that have come my way. Always honored to be a part of special shows and support my Galleries by being there for them. So fun to meet collectors and connect over all things Art and usually Golf too!
Super excited to have these new Abstracts at Gregg Irby Gallery in Atlanta. I have been working on both styles for years and loved building a series in each style for Gregg’s Masterpiece and Minis Show that is going on now.
I included a photo of just one of each of the styles to give you a feel for each one. The first series reminds me of stained glass windows and feels like the sunlight is pouring through. I love layering the transparent colors and seeing what then happens. Unique shapes that are strong and organic emerge to me and I love painting calm quiet space around them. Adore that these can be done in different color families or specific limited color palettes that work so well together.
The second series are expressive shapes in beautiful colors with lots of calm resting places within. Again they are layered and so important how it all fits together to make a strong composition. I love having some raw linen or quiet space around the edge of these and showing up throughout the painting too.

Abstracts are so much harder to paint than my more representational work and I love the constant learning journey. I love mixing it up and seeing how well they all pull together as they all connect through my unique painting voice. Painting brings such a gift of Peace into my life and I love hearing that folks feel that from my paintings. That’s the real gift for me.

It’s such a fun time of year with shows all over the Southeast and I am honored to be a part of them. It’s always fun to connect and talk with friends old and new over a mutual love of all things art. Hope if you are in the Nashville area you will come out to Bennett Galleries next Friday evening!
I loved painting this one and it’s a favorite. So many layers in that beautiful background to support that waterfall cascade of flowers. I love the “chinoiserie” mark making and was inspired by all the different flowers in this dynamic still life set up. So blessed to paint such lovely subjects and just trying to capture them with paint.

Always love a fresh clean rain that has a beautiful rhythm to it. Mesmerizing. This painting was so fun to build up the many layers of soft colors and texture. It’s a favorite of mine and also Brennan’s at Atelier Gallery in Charleston. Says the photo does not do it justice. That’s why I appreciate my Galleries- sometimes art needs to be seen in person for the connection to happen.

40 x 40 Oil with Wax
I had been thinking about this still life set up for weeks….it was just an idea that would not go away until I painted it! I thoroughly enjoyed immersing into all the gorgeous layers building up in the background. The complicated Blue and White Chinoiserie Pagoda was a fun challenge to paint. Tough perspective and intricate design and I loved every minute. I have had this pagoda for so many years and it was delightful to put fresh beautiful roses in it and create this painting. I always feel so blessed to be an artist.

Speaking of good things and blessings…Super excited to have 2 shows coming up soon at Galleries. First one is on Thursday night, November 5th at ArtSource in Raleigh, NC. The following week on Friday night, November 13th at Bennett Galleries in Nashville, TN. I hope if you live near either of those hot spots you will come out and visit with us all. Going to be very special!

Available at Atelier Gallery, Charleston, SC at 843-722-5668
I love the painting process and I typically incorporate some kind of line/mark making against an abstract background no matter what I am painting. That’s as essential to me as capturing that light and shadow connection. Adore painting these figures as they allow me to put all my favorite things into the painting process for them. I have been painting figures and studies since I started painting. They are extremely hard to do and a great way to push and learn. I love attending live figure drawing sessions and do that as often as I can. Can’t find a prettier painter than Sherrie McGraw and I learned so very much in her advanced workshop. Sherrie teaches the “Language of Drawing” and watching her paint is like watching ballet- it’s just beautiful.
This figure is so strong and just gave me fits painting her left and right. It was a struggle and perhaps that’s why she is my favorite…And also the owner at Atelier Galleries favorite painting too. As I painted her my thoughts kept going to all the strong friends that I have admired and surrounded myself with. I especially thought of my very best sister friend who fought a valiant fight against breast cancer and then leukemia until the very end. Perhaps it’s breast cancer awareness month, her anniversary and birthday all coming up. I miss her but know she’s busy “angel-ing” up in heaven. Here’s to every strong individual out there who is fighting the fight…Peace and Grace.

FireInTheSky©KathyCousart

36 x 48 Oil with Wax

Super excited! Loading up and heading out to deliver to the beautiful Atelier Gallery in Charleston! Can’t wait to show some of the beautiful new paintings that are making their way to my favorite gallery right on King Street. It’s always a welcome little break for us to visit and recharge in such a fun city.
This painting was a joy to paint and I did my very best to capture Nature’s colors that are just beyond comprehension at times. They always humble me and blow me away they are so pure and brilliant. This sunrise was truly a Fire in the Sky and I was in awe of it. Still am…
