I love the painting process and I typically incorporate some kind of line/mark making against an abstract background no matter what I am painting. That’s as essential to me as capturing that light and shadow connection. Adore painting these figures as they allow me to put all my favorite things into the painting process for them. I have been painting figures and studies since I started painting. They are extremely hard to do and a great way to push and learn. I love attending live figure drawing sessions and do that as often as I can. Can’t find a prettier painter than Sherrie McGraw and I learned so very much in her advanced workshop. Sherrie teaches the “Language of Drawing” and watching her paint is like watching ballet- it’s just beautiful.
This figure is so strong and just gave me fits painting her left and right. It was a struggle and perhaps that’s why she is my favorite…And also the owner at Atelier Galleries favorite painting too. As I painted her my thoughts kept going to all the strong friends that I have admired and surrounded myself with. I especially thought of my very best sister friend who fought a valiant fight against breast cancer and then leukemia until the very end. Perhaps it’s breast cancer awareness month, her anniversary and birthday all coming up. I miss her but know she’s busy “angel-ing” up in heaven. Here’s to every strong individual out there who is fighting the fight…Peace and Grace.

I have been leaning toward much a more abstract painting style for quite a while now and love embracing that intuitive voice and letting that inform my paintings. This painting is quite special. It’s been a rather tough time for my Mom and I have so appreciated the many angels that help me to then help her. My Mom did not recognize me for the first time the other day but I still managed to connect with her right where she was and that was the gift for me. I know that there are several very important folks in my life that have my back and are always right there for me. I strive to do the same right back for them. I think it’s all about the connection between us and that’s what makes painting so special for me…I can say and share something through my art and hopefully pass that along. I love this painting…it just flowed and there are so many gorgeous layers of paint and emotion in it too. It’s all about the many layers of us and connecting however we can through all those layers. Peace and Love Y’all.

Best feeling on the golf course is lining up to make that Birdie Putt! Always love to see those roll in and think that’s a huge part of what keeps us all coming back to golf…that feeling of hitting a great shot or draining that long putt. I have been so lucky that golf has been a huge part of our lives. Married to a PGA professional and I had the best job ever coaching collegiate golf at the University of Georgia for quite awhile. I loved making a difference on the course and off with so many of my players. Golf got quite contagious at our house and both daughters played Collegiate golf and the younger one became an amazing PGA Teaching Professional in her own right. Could not be prouder. Golf has been good to our family and I love that it is the game of a lifetime. This painting was all about the fun memories with so many amazing folks teeing it up. It’s about how I always feel at the golf course….joyous and happy and looking for birdies!

There is something that I connect with painting sweet lambs and other animals too. I think that for the lambs it’s the sweet peace I feel about them and yet they have fun personalities too! This was such a beautiful scene and I love the light streaming across the lamb in the barn with the warm hay surrounding it. It’s a beautiful color palette on linen and the perfect size to tuck anywhere. So happy that this painting along with five others are now hanging at Tyler White Gallery and ready for the upcoming Holiday Show that opens this Friday night. I hope if you are in the area you will stop by or give them a call. Please check out my other paintings too on their website- http://www.tylerwhitegallery.com/kathy-cousart-bio. Looking forward to an amazing show with them! Thanks Y’all! Peace:)

I love painting these horse and snow scenes with all the gorgeous shifts of warm and cool in the whites. Something about the spirit of horses just calls out to me. They are these big gentle giants and I just love them. I also love painting the snow and appreciate when we get our couple of days a year of it down here in Georgia! Thanks to sweet friend Elaine for allowing me to paint her beautiful horses!!

I am back in the saddle so to speak! Home from Texas, up early, checking on the Moms and painting the rest of the day. Love painting these white horses in white snow! Warm and cool temperature shifts all over those beautiful horses! Draws me right in. And the title came from singing and playing Pony Boy with my first Grandson for days in Texas. So figure this does fit in with my Southern Impressions Series for that reason alone:) We do love snow in the South and get so excited about it that whole towns will shut down and close schools to celebrate! Snow day equals play day with lots of hot chocolate. Big thank you to friend Elaine Joseph for allowing me to paint their lovely horses from their farm.

Fresh off my easel and continuing in my Southern Impressions Series this month. Family is so very important to me and I am sure most of you. We are a small but close family and so proud of our daughters. After they both were separated by playing collegiate golf at different schools we have loved having them both in Atlanta and back home so to speak. We are cheering on our older daughter as she accepts a huge promotion and moves the new love of our lives with her far away from Georgia to Texas. This little Southern Baby Boy has brought such joy into our lives and for that we are forever grateful. I just had to paint him and chose a sweet photo of him crawling around buck naked on the beach. We had just finished a photo shoot and there was no one else around- it was so special and fun to see him crawling in the shallow waves! I cropped the photo not sure that I wanted put the whole photo on the internet. Gotta respect my little ones privacy:)
I have gifted the painting to my Son in Law-trading it out for an early “not so good” cow painting that he keeps hiding from me. Hoping this will do the trick for a trade! Ha!
And this will be my last post until I return from Texas next week…no internet and gonna soak up every minute with the now gonna be Texas Baby Boy! Thanks Y’all!

I have had the best time painting these sweet spring animals and many of them have just been delivered to Shain Gallery! There is just a quiet peacefulness about them and it’s fun to capture their personality. They are all so different. Love the color palette in this one with so many pretty warm and cool colors. I love painting on claessen’s linen with that wonderful tooth that just lets me really apply some paint! This is framed in a Higbee floater frame that has gorgeous heavy molding.
