I loved everything about this composition and really enjoyed painting it. The pale neutral buildings with soft edges in the back against the sharp lines of the dark gondolas are really interesting to me. Then you have the all important bridge but how important is it because that gorgeous shimmering water is the real star here! I had painted this at home and then took it into art school to work on those last few marks in the waterway. I wanted that water to shimmer and glisten like a rock star. Mentor Jim Richards had a book of Sargeant’s with a painting from almost this spot and we looked at brushwork. I have to give thanks to Jim who helped me with that and voila’- it was perfect! I yearn to know everything there is to know and also be able to execute it…Working hard!
And if you have not heard yet, my very first newsletter makes its debut today! Yay!! I have sent it out with lots of good information to be enjoyed by all and hopefully no hiccups. I have to say it was a lot of work to get this first one done but I am pleased with the format and wanted it to be something everyone would enjoy! I am aiming for the reader to feel as if they took a little tour into my art gallery and got to know a bit about how and what I paint. If you would like to sign up for it…please feel free to Subscribe to my Monthly Newsletter here and I can get one right out to you or you would get next month’s. Thank you!

ONe of my favorite things about your work is you ability to edit and only reveal what is necessary for us to enjoy the scene. This painting is fabulously edited and gives me the feeling of being there. Just love it!
