Boats/Seascapes

Feeling like we packed a lifetime of lessons and gratitudes into these last few days road tripping up to deliver 22 huge Oil Paintings up to Raleigh then across to Greensboro. It’s months of studio hours painting and then lots of coordinating all the business parts too. I am forever grateful for the best husband and business partner ever Dave Cousart.
We had every obstacle we could have had weather wise from scorching heat to torrential down pours and could not believe that our car’s air conditioning broke on the way up there. It got to the Saturday Night Live level as we got drowned at our first stop dropping off just one special painting but got soaked dripping wet to the skin. I have no doubt we looked like a comedy skit splashing our way though the torrential downpour slipping and sliding in the mud but delivering and protecting that one painting at all costs. Makes one re-think priorities in life and art, right?

Always honored to be in such gorgeous Galleries and surrounded by all the amazing artwork by talented artists that feeds my soul. I love the partnerships with my Galleries and other Artists that become friendships that I treasure. It’s humbling to be hearing what my paintings mean to folks. We heard several stories that I am holding close and brought tears to my eyes…very special indeed. And that is exactly why I feel called to paint and do what I do and Dave understands that. It’s passing on everything I can and giving Peace and Grace back through my paintings. Blessed beyond words…just feeling so blessed.

Oh my gosh, this was so much fun to paint! I have always loved to paint boats and actually to be in boats-something about the water for me I think! The graphic lines and tough perspective of this gorgeous boat against the abstract textured background is super interesting to me. I love the light and shadow patterns all over the boat too- it’s just remembering that I am painting shapes and then it all comes together. This boat had the most fabulous lost and found edges and those are so fun. It’s taking that fundamental information and intuitively having fun with the subject matter. My favorite way to paint!

I love this color palette- it’s my mixed favorite linen colors and lots of shifts in the whites. The wax gives this a rich patina that makes me swoon! I keep sitting and just looking into this painting and imagining all the places I can just go off to-Lost and Found…

I had the most fun meeting with the wonderful staff at ArtSource Gallery and having them look over all the paintings that I had brought. I was super excited that they wanted Fifteen Paintings of many different genre’s that they felt would connect with their collectors. It’s a beautiful gallery chock full of talented artists and I am thrilled to be right there with them. Here’s just a few of my paintings hanging there- hope if you are in the area you will drop by- ArtSource Gallery, Raleigh NC (919) 787-9533

Just a sweet painting that makes you think of all the adventures you have yet to go on…I love that- the anticipation of what’s to come along the way.
I am really liking the way this beautiful wax mingles with the oil and gives such a wonderful texture. I love how rich the colors are but with a soft patina to them that is glowey. I could play with oil and wax forever! I am always drawn to peaceful compositions that symbolize hope and all good things to come…hope you are too. Life should be full of amazing anticipation!

Available at The Atelier Gallery 153 King St Charleston, SC (843) 722-5668

I started this painting with the prettiest wash of permanent rose along with some linen abstract marks and I was sad to cover that up. They always say every great painting has a beautiful abstract underneath and I know this one sure does. I loved painting that gorgeous rich sky and capturing that beauty that dazzled me. Those clouds were heaven sent for sure! I was drawn to the groupings of families and friends huddled under umbrellas and appreciated that they were just happy to be there like I was soaking up the sunshine. As I painted this I thought about all the sweet intimate moments you can have on a crowded beach. Love those little memories where you connect and share a story or a smile in the midst of the sea of humanity:)

This is a favorite of mine for many reasons…one is that there is so much to look at in this wonderful scene. I love the boats- can just imagine trolling around to all the wonderful spots. Love all those awnings and makes me want to go peek inside and find some treasures. When I get a bit tired from all the fun- I could stop and rest for a light lunch and a glass of wine at one of the cafe’s under an umbrella! I would be mesmerized by all those gorgeous reflections in the water! This was so much fun to paint and I loved working on it. Hope you will go take a peek at it at dk Gallery- it’s hanging out there just waiting for you!

Sweet Spot© Kathy Cousart

Great day for a Sweet Spot! Love painting boats and this one has some wonderful light on it and lots of great brushwork! Sometimes a painting just sort of speaks to you and this one did to me. So much fun to paint all that rigging and imply the stuff- always making decisions while painting! Hope this hits your Sweet Spot too!
