I am just over the moon and having fun with all kinds of architecture and difficult perspectives these days. My hard work on drawing is allowing me to spread my wings and I appreciate that. This composition was all about the strong light and gorgeous reflections and these colors were just over the top fun. At my teacher Jim’s suggestion, I actually did a gray value study first and was very careful to get all the values correct and lay down some good neutrals. I then started applying all the yummy color on top of that. That allowed me to go for it and have a wonderful color harmony I just love. Those pretty grays pop through where I want them to and hold the painting together. Hope I explained that well enough for y’all to understand what I meant.

I also had to smile the whole way through this one and really wanted to title it the Newlyweds…Just feels fresh and fun and full of hope. I imagine the boats coming in after a day at work and the rows of fun houses are all newlyweds and in Married Housing-Europe style….I have no clue where my mind wandered to and came up with all that except for the fresh, fun and full of hope feeling I had while painting it…Happy Sunlit Fishing Village!
