Did your Mama always tell you to put on your Sunday Best? Meaning manners and whatever you were wearing too? These gorgeous hydrangeas from my very own garden made me think of that. They are slowly popping back out for me for a fall showing and I cut these last Sunday. Kept thinking they were showing me their very best as I painted them. Hence…the title!

I always talk about painting light and shadow and that is what attracts me to most anything. These were just so pretty and I loved painting all those shifts and bits of color. I have been told that my higher key paintings just don’t show how lovely they are in a photograph…guess it’s hard to capture all the subtilties with a camera. I do love painting flowers and my favorite is a soft palette like this one. It would look so gorgeous just about anywhere! Hope y ‘all like Sunday Best too!
