Radishes are so much fun to paint. All that gorgeous red against all the leafy green is just a painting waiting to happen. I try to get the prettiest red ones and then the special batch with the biggest amount of leafy green leaves and stems at the back. This particular bunch was just a deeper red than most and that attracted me to it. Had fun massing it all in and then finding the dark shadows in those gorgeous leaves. I love painting the little fun stems that just are everywhere!
I have been really working on painting from life as I get ready to go paint plein air at Saint Simon’s Island this coming weekend. Can’t wait!

Gros bisous

Just amazes me how much your technique and interpretations of your subject matter has grown in leaps and bounds Kathy! And this precious little bunch of red testifies to that statement.
Brings back memories as a child, when we had a garden and would pluck the radishes for sandwiches. Imagine that - radish sandwiches!

So nice. I love the subtle color shifts in your reds and greens. Lovely!

I agree, radishes are a subject you should tackle at LEAST once a year! These ARE ruby red! And so fresh looking you can almost hear the ‘snap’ when you bite into one! I think you should send these to Susan R., she sounds hungry….

Radishes are such fun to paint and to eat. You captured them well with your brush and paint. I would love to bite into one. They look so crunchy.
