I am back in the saddle so to speak! Home from Texas, up early, checking on the Moms and painting the rest of the day. Love painting these white horses in white snow! Warm and cool temperature shifts all over those beautiful horses! Draws me right in. And the title came from singing and playing Pony Boy with my first Grandson for days in Texas. So figure this does fit in with my Southern Impressions Series for that reason alone:) We do love snow in the South and get so excited about it that whole towns will shut down and close schools to celebrate! Snow day equals play day with lots of hot chocolate. Big thank you to friend Elaine Joseph for allowing me to paint their lovely horses from their farm.

Marshes with soft morning light are a beautiful peaceful place to escape to. It’s also a favorite way to start the day! Always love painting what that light does to everything it touches and appreciate that so much in my life. I study light constantly and love to paint just about anything that has strong light and shadow so I guess you could say that LIGHT is my most favorite subject:) My dad had a favorite saying and I believe it and try to live it and will share it here-

instead of “Have a Great Day”——- “Go Out and MAKE It a Great Day!

I did a small painting of this scene first and just loved the composition. Always love finding those abstract shapes that are so interesting to me! I then worked off that to change it up just a bit and go really big. I liked seeing the design in a small format and then what more I could do going way bigger. So cool to have both of these handing together too! I could chase clouds every day! How about you?

Beach Follies and what I did on my first ever weeklong vacation!

Beach Follies (the painting) first- It is a favorite painting and I just love when I can nail those abstractions. It’s hard to go for it with bravura brushwork and then not touch it again! It’s so much about what you are trying to say with your vision for the painting and what information you need in it. Something about cloudscapes and beaches just bring me such peace. They also make me happy…Hope they do you too!

Somehow with work and responsibilities we were just never able to get away for more than a handful of days at a time so this was extremely special for us. It was also a much needed break from being Primary Caretakers for both of our Moms. We were so happy that it all worked out for us to be together at our favorite place where our kids grew up hitting the beach. We had lots of fun family time and treasured seeing so many of our only grandchild’s “firsts” every day. He is an amazing baby and also my studio assistant or so I like to claim:) Just thought I would share a few photos from our time together…Family, Faith, Trust, Joy, Peace and Grace…Blessings Too Y’all!

So many thoughts spinning through my head with this painting and even the title. We are all our on own amazing journey and I am so appreciative of each and every blessing. I am especially thankful for being a part of this art world. I have said it before but it has truly saved me and has been my happy place. We are lucky enough to be heading to the Beach for a much needed break with our kids and our first grandchild. Doesn’t get much better than that. Thoughts and prayers to keep both our moms safe and sound while we go away for the first time in about 9 years from them and come back recharged and ready to continue on as primary caretakers. Perhaps I should have called this painting sandwich generation:) Y’all know what I mean as so many of us are sharing this same journey along the way.

I love this painting…the palette is just rich and beautiful colors. I have been holding onto it because I loved it so but know it’s time for it to go to someone special. I am looking forward to doing lots of plein air painting at the beach along with golf and fun and just watching that grandson as he is taking in his first visit to our favorite place. Love him for the pure joy that he brings to our journey. Peace and Grace Friends!

Pass This Way Again©KathyCousart

40 x 40 Oil on Linen
$2800.00

I really love to paint marshes with their wonderful timeless ebb and flow. This painting was done from a smaller study that I had painted plein air and I had fun going so much bigger with it. I love painting plein air and catching all the correct color notes right there on the spot. Sunrises and sunsets have the richest most saturated color that can be almost unbelievable because it’s so pure. I am always in awe of all the natural beauty! I learned such a big lesson with this one from my mentor, Jim Richards, in glazing techniques…just like the old masters used to do. It was amazing how much it changed the painting and I have worked with the glazing to get it just the way I remember the morning to be. It was wonderful to “Pass This Way Again.”

Always love and appreciate sunlight shining on anything! It is fascinating what it does to colors and also interesting to see the dialogue between what is in light and what is in shadow. I was very pleased with how this sweet composition turned out. Has a real peaceful feel to it…like a good place to go for a walk and escape for a bit. I have come to love all the different shades of green. There are so many beautiful greens from light to dark and warm to cool and it’s fun to push and play with them.

That’s exactly how I feel about painting and being a part of this amazing art world…it’s the Wonder of It All that keeps me loving the learning and the journey. This was a very cool format to work with and I hunted for just the perfect composition. Fabulous Gallery Owner Gabrielle had suggested that I paint something for them in this format and I was happy too. Always appreciate hearing what my galleries want from me and what they think their collectors will connect with. That’s another part of the Wonder of It All…I always know that my paintings will go to just that right person. One of my favorite things about painting is seeing that happen. Always honored and humbled for sure. This was a joy to paint with one of my favorite subjects because clouds always having me thinking about the Wonder of It All too!

Oh Buoy!(CloseUp-detail)©KathyCousart

Have had the best time playing and painting with the “Buoys!” All those abstract shapes in every direction while all that fabulous rich color in light and shadow keeps you smiling. This was a fun one and I love it. I think you can tell when an artist really connects and has fun with the subject matter. I was having so much fun that I painted a few more in different compositions and a bit different color palettes. Will share those soon! Happy Buoy’s Y’all!

BeachWalk©KathyCousart

Who doesn’t love a Beach Walk anytime of day? My favorite time of day is probably early morning when everything is fresh and new and the day is full of all kinds of possibilities! I really enjoyed this welcoming scene and the color palette was just beautiful to paint. I am ready to head back to the beach and do some more plein air painting soon!
